Most of these competitions have a structure where each angler is given a specific sector. Not sure how large each sector is but maybe that spot was the best potential for that sector.
Over every mountain there is a path, although it may not be seen from the valley

I believe that's the Chattooga river in Georgia, guy was fishing a tournament, there has been a lot of conflict, between the white water kayakers and the fishermen.
