....."I've seen it all" comes to mind.
Well, as Chris, Pat and myself were out in the fog chasing redfish (For those of you that stayed home, you missed it ) I hook up to a slot size redfish. Out of the fog comes this pontoon boat. I figure, "Great, a bunch of stinkpotting hole jumpers", they come motoring over and yell out "Where are we?", "WTF are you kidding me?" I tell them Simmons Park. They have never heard of it. Then they proceed to tell us "We went out and dont have a compass, which way is land?"
Upon further review of the photos, I couldn't believe what I saw.
These guys were from Macdill. They had come clear across the bay with no compass in some of the thickest fog I have seen in a long while.

They are probably still out there as speak heading towards Bradenton.
Re: I dont know what to say....
Awesome. I wonder if they finally gave up and called the CG. Morons.
New place, new fishing adventures.

Heywood - that is a classic photo of the pontoon boat lost in the fog - thanks
Be thankful for every day and especially those fine days on the water

Might have been a rental. That would explain a lot.
These would be the same guys who anchor on the west side of pine key and then get swamped/sunk by the cruise lines. There's a reason you anchor on the east side on Sundays, but I digress...

I showed up a bit late to fish with Bill & the boys, but I did see the pontoon boat in the fog.
I thought they were locals who, of course knew what they were doing....
I too learned the compass in the fog lesson. ..
First time in this area & first time in the fog!
A good compass is now part of the gear.
Had I been back in the mangroves...no problem, but on the open bay....
On the upside, I managed to land one flatfish.

My buddy John did that once while we were fishing Simmons in the fog. No compass, but at least he brought his walkee talkee to call me and tell me to whistle really loud so he could paddle his way back..
