Re: I need some help

I was having the same problems and two things helped 1. Using a short speed up and quick stop movement on the back and forward cast. I was moving the rod in too long an arc and had way too much wrist in it. 2. Learning to haul. I first found that a quick haul on the backcast got a lot more speed and...

Gamagatsu sc15 on most of the saltwater flies. I have used Owner freshwater hooks for gurglers becasue they are a bit lighter and seem to float better. I also like Owner hooks for spinning deer hair poppers and sliders.

I had the same problem. The paddle would go together easily in the morning but after being in the sun would be really hard to get apart. I used some sandpaper on the male end of the joint and it works fine. Just make sure you don't sand it too much or the paddle will be loose.

I would first try lead eyes clouser style so the hook would ride up. Another idea is to use lead or tungston putty to build a weighted keel on the hookshank opposite the hook point. This stuff can be formed by hand and then hardens when cured. Put as much as you need, in the shape you need, and then...

Good looking gurglers. I have been experimenting with tying the fly with the hook pointing up to use in high weed situations. It works great with a light wire hook but I am having tourble with it laying on its side with stronger, saltwater hooks, Any ideas?

Hawaii???

My family and I are going to Oahu for a week in late May. We lived there in the mid 1980's and are looking forward to seeing the old stomping grounds. We are renting a house on the North Shore and I have heard there are good bonefish opportunities on the island. Has anyone done any fishing there, es...

Tons of those up in the Big Bend. Mainly in the rivers but I have heard they venture into the bays. They are prehistoric looking for sure.

Breathable waist high waders with neopreme booties. Long sleeve shirt with rain jacket. If really cold, I break out the polarfleece.

I have a prescription pair of Costa Fathoms in the 400 series. I personally think they are heavy and no better optics than my Smith Optics. The Smiths are much more comfortable and lighter. On the Smiths, I use the wet and stick on 2;5 magnifiers for seeing the close stuff like tying on flies. The o...

Redington Predator

Has anyone cast the new Redington Predatory yet. 7'10" 8wt that I saw at Tampa Anglers. I immediately fell in love with it and think it could be the perfect kayak rod. It is similar to the Sage Largemouth but $200 cheaper.

Any comments or reviews.

Also I was wondering...when you guys fly fish are you mainly sight casting or just blind casting? Bill Jackson's has a pretty good selec...

Way to go. It is really addicting so watch out. I have somehow acquired enough fly tying material to supply all the guides in Florida for the next year and I don't know how it happened.

Bass pro has David Whitlocks video for like $9.00. I know you wanted a book, but trust me, I've looked for years, and bought almost every book I could find. Nothing beats that video. It really made understanding the tecnique easy. And Dave is one of the best in my book. I agree. Whitlocks videos on...
