Not sure since Casey Key Outfitters shut down for all practical purposes. Hmmmm ...islander wrote:between Sarasota and Port Charlotte? Know of Economy.

There is a place in South Venice on US 41. The name has escaped me now. It is primarily a hunting, camping, etc. It is on the left hind side while traveling South, next to some big basket shop. Not a huge selection but does good on the basics and the prices are good. When I remember the name I will post.

Yes, Cooks. Been there 100 years I think.
You can find the basics at Economy, CB's and Cooks. When possible, I like to buy local but sometimes they just don't stock what you want/need.
With that in mind, what are the better online shops for fly tying materials?

Over every mountain there is a path, although it may not be seen from the valley
I have not been doing this a long time but I have yet to order materials online. For some reason I like to stop by the shop and put my hands on the materials. I actually look around and think of different designs by picking the materials up.
Kind of like going to Lowes and knowing you have a plumbing problem to solve and all you have is a few cell phone pictures of under the sink.

Charlie Craven's
Cabela's
Feather Craft
There are others but these are the main ones I use.

I can't believe Charlie Craven's Fly Box made this list! I've known Charlie for years, since he operated Rocky Mountain Anglers in my home town of Boulder. His flies are the BEST, and he's a great guy to boot. I know this sounds like a paid endorsement but supporting Charlie is money well-spent.
Everyone is entitled to my opinion
Another great online resource for a local shop, Harry Murray's in Edinburgh, VA. Harry is the king of smallmouth bass flyfishermen, and an incredibly nice human being to boot! He kept me supplied with materials when I was stationed in Korea. Good selection of gear and feathers.
