4/4/15 Sote

Finally got out and did some catching. Was such a great day I felt guilty not sharing. Launched Saturday at dark thirty and was on the flats within a few minutes. Was elated to see mullet everywhere and hopeful some of their friends were with them. Water was less than a foot deep for quite a distance so the spook jr worked perfect for blind casting near the mullet. After a few missed strikes the lure disappeared and the drag was screaming. I was getting nervous because he was face rubbing my plug against those weeds trying to lose me so I made sure to drive the trebles home. A few minutes later a big healthy top of the slot redfish was onboard and quickly escorted to the cooler. Next cast after that brought a 22” snook off the same flat. Not bad for 15 minutes into the trip. Then things slowed down while the sun came up and so did all the rest of the fisherman, lots of boats and lots of kayaks. I decided to go try a flat everyone seemed to be ignoring. While standing and paddling out there I saw a big fish pushing wake. It had me in a trance and tossing a lure to it was the last thing on my mind. Only thing I wanted to do was get close enough to see it and holy cow it was a snooklog, looked like a cobia! Hit my spot and pulled some trouts and a flounder by jigging the broken bottom. It started getting hotter so I went to another flat which is in route to the launch. Was standing and quickly saw a big redfish and another and then another. These were big reds and were swimming solo. Didn’t have any luck catching them, they were aware of me before I was of them. Didn’t have the energy to get out and wade for them so I packed it up. I never saw so many big quality fish in an outing. Even when I was pulling my boat out of the water a big slot snook with scars on his head came cruising by the sea wall. It was a weird day with lots to see. Rays fining and free jumping, sharks cruising and manatees humping. Made it home by noon, cleaned the fish and was napping by two. Pics or it didn’t happen right?

Looks like a great morning. I need to find me a red fish. Haven't seen one in a while.
Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.
