Manatee River on the Fly

Post by Gibby3474 »

Pat and I hit the river early Friday. Our hands were numb (yes, we're cold wimps) as we paddled upriver in 48-degree air.

The action was cold as the air for the first hour. I did hook something large, but broke it off.

We found an area holding fish and Pat started catching when he switched to a No. 12 nymph under a strike indicator. We caught monster bluegill, speckled perch, bass and channel catfish.

The river is a place where you can consistent hook and battle channel cats. They're very strong, fast and put up a great battle -- especially on our 1- to 3-weight fly rods.

When the action slowed, we the main river for the float back and landed a number of channel cats and big bluegill.

Great place for a change of pace.

The Slayer is a very well designed, very stable kayak. Great fishing platform.
