Friend is hooked on kayak fishing

Post by Gibby3474 »

Finally got to take an old friend out the other day. We have been trying to get together to fish for several years. We used to work together before he moved to Baton Rouge.
He told me that he's been thinking about buying a kayak, but had never been in one.
Steve fished out of my Slayer 14.5 and I paddled my Ultimate 14.5.
It was about 48 degrees when we launched Monday morning. We headed straight for a spot about a mile away. The tide was outgoing and the Solunar Tables called for a major feeding period between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
First spot yielded nothing. We fished for about an hour, but came up empty. I decided to move to another spot about a half mile away.
I caught two small snook on a MirrOlure MirrOdine. Then, Steve hooked a nice snook on a MirrOlure Little John on a light jig head. His fish went about 28 inches and gave him quite a battle. He was amazed that the fish towed him.
In about 90 minutes, we totaled 13 snook to 32 inches -- most were 28 inches or more.
When the tide went slack, so did the action.
Time to go home.
Steve not only was hooked on snook fishing, but also on kayaks.
He plans to buy one back in Louisiana.
