My First Tarpon experience

Post by rugrat181 »

I have try to sum this up without getting carried away. Truth is, as I started this is I am still getting shivers of excitement just thinking about it.
Yesterday, on my fourth attempt, I jumped a tarpon. WOW about sums it up as this beast flew into the air and off I went for a ride. The battle included several jumps and runs, (tried to bow when it came up) and we wound up in 3 feet of water in a creek !!! The fish turned, I tried to spin the kayak, and just like that, after 30 min., it was gone. My leader was frayed but I think I have to blame myself here for using a loop knot which may have given out.
Since I got home, all I can think about it getting another chance.

Happy Memorial Day and a belated BIG thank-you to all our veterans and active serviceman that make my freedom to enjoy life possible.

Dave, :salute:

Congratulations. That is exactly how this tarpon fever thing starts. I can still remember very clearly the first one I hooked two years ago. It is a total thrill every time no matter how it ends up.
Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.

"SANCTUARY!!!"

Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse, and helping your uncle jack off a horse.
