So it begins, a serious case of tarpon fever

Post by noles »

Day 1 (4/6): Nada
Day 2 (4/8): I good shot with the buggy whip. No takers.
Day 3 (4/11):

I had the beach all to myself. Launch was a little bumpy but it flatten out nicely as the wind shifted form NE to easterly. Jumped three fish by 7am. First one spit the fly, second landed on the tippet after a couple of jumps and the third one spit the fly. It was one of those magical morning! Off the water at 8 and in the office by 8:45.

Beats my three trips (see below)...but that's OK, had some great trips and Wonderboy has the fever. Sooner or later I'll get on 'em - just gotta pay my dues to the fishing gods first.

Imagine how well you'd do with normal sized fingers.

You guys are doing much better than I.. The biggest thing I've hooked so far is my thumb (ouch!!!). Oh, and a few catfish.

Had em 5 feet in front of me so I know it's just a matter of putting in the time.
It's 5 o'clock somewhere. Let's celebrate !!

Noles,

Let us know how you do and keep us posted on your quest. I'd to try tarpon from a yak with the long rod, but I just started in the saltwater game this spring, even though I've fly fished for a number of years. My goal is to be ready to go for the tarpon/beach gig by next spring. ... Gotta conquer sight fishing for reds first.
