Anyone up for an old fashioned Paddle-In?

Post by Rik »

Thinking about May 19 at Joe Island.

Launch when you want, fish the area and then meet at the island about 1/4 mile east of the launch. There a couple people with canoes that can be used for ferry barges to haul grills, coolers if needed.

A Paddle-In has always been loosely defined as a get there when you get there, leave when you leave, bring what you want for yourself, bring more if you want to share informal get together. A time to put names with screen names and faces. A time to brag about that 67 inch snook you caught but forgot to take your camera and the 88 redfish you caught when you were just too busy catching fish to take pictures.

There is no one in charge. If you want to be part of a food brigade, speak up. If we don't do dogs and burgers on grills everyone will just bring their own sandwich. Either way, really doesn't matter. If you have some ideas about things to add, throw them out here.

The launch is in the rest area at the southern end of the causeway. The island is marked on this aerial.

Interested?

Sounds good to me. Given that the 19th is my anniversary there may be a little complication to my being there, but I will let you know. I will marked it on my calendar.
Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.

Do they still limit the time you can park in the rest stop?

Is that island open to the public? I know there is / was a house on it years back with an agressive dog that patrolled the shore. That being said cannot make that weekend it is inventory and I am not allowed to deviate or request to be off go to a loved ones funeral win the lottery quit or die for the next 6 weeks.

You're talking about Joe Island, the big island north of the launch. The island I marked is a small, mostly sand island

Bob - I didn't know about the time limit. Anyone drive by there on a regular basis that could check?

I'll run over there tommorrow and ask but I do believe they are patroling and ticketing / towing.... at least they were when I was there last year it seems to me there was signage. FHP hangs out there ..I'll ask

I used to launch there quite often and the "island" is just a spit of sand but a nice lunch spot.
