Holiday Surprise

Post by Capt. Jack »

My in-laws just completed a roundtrip journey from Jacksonville to Orlando on the St. Johns in their houseboat. On Thanksgiving they were staying overnight at a marina in Sanford. My wife and I drive from Dunedin to eat Thanksgiving dinner with them. I noticed my FIL had a fishing pole on board. I decided, after eating, to throw a piece of leftover meat out and see if any swamp creatures were hungry. I was actually in the living room of the houseboat when this beast hit. It was a great fight that at times felt like I had a tractor tire on. I landed him and the lady on the next boat over was heating up the grease before I could get him off of the hook. This fish made a great Thanksgiving even more memorable.
Our tradition is that of the first man who snuck away to the creek when the tribe did not really need fish.
