I have had good luck with a chartreuse zara spook. The trout blow it out of the water as long as the water is calm.

Keep up with the top waters, they will still produce this time of year. The water has cooled down, but not enough to think of switching to smaller baits.

Exude RT Slugs, or Darts. Arkansas Shad or a Gold Dart.

I use top water all year. This time of year there is a lot of floating grass due to it dying off from the diminishing sun of winter but, I still use it if I can.

DOA Golden glow shadtail and curly tail have been the ticket for me. Rig em weedless with a hitchhiker and a 3/0 flutter hook!

My go to lures right now are white aquadream spoon, greenie DOA paddle tail, and yozuri circle hook slider

There is a lot of bait around now so I have been sticking to lighter color patterns... Gotta match the hatch...

I use same lures year round.. DOA Shrimps, Spook.. some times throw in a DOA BaitBuster if not in an area full of toothy cuda's and change up top-water to a ChugBug

He ain't lying... if you like the dart, try a Lil Jon, they're made out of a firmer plastic and stay on the hook better. But when I don't have a Jon to throw the darts get it done too!

Natural shrimp color for me lately.

My $.02 ...and something I learned from zerosix and CA Richardson mentioned this at a seminar as well...(wow, did I just compare 06 to CA??)

- the less the wind is blowing the smaller the topwater plug I use; I was heaving a 4-5" beast in flat calm water - it's almost too much noise.
- when the wind was blowing pretty stiff I was successful with the bigger plug
- I switched to a Spook pup (not the Jr. - next one down) and landed my personal biggest red (29.5")
- lastly the farther out the plug to me it seemed the stiffer you wanted the rod to set the hook. Couple times I was way out there and the ML rod felt to whippy to set the hook; I pretty much use a M rod on top water ML on everything else, but that's me.

I like the white color (or at least white on the belly) - seems to catch all of 'em (reds, snook, trout).

Maybe your "top water" is a good summer producer but not so much of a fall producer....

That's what I'm thinking but I have done pretty well on the Jacks in the colder months in past years with top water.. I always try to be different with my choice of top water. This years sucess was the "She Dog".. I caught quite a few snook on it.. I like trying new lures when everyone else is using the same thing over and over.

The She Dog is far from a new or different lure. I have used it for years, really good in a chop, with the wind you can cast those things a mile.
