Had a decent day with my brother and need ID help

My bro and I went out this morning. I caught a nice trout on my very first cast. That's usually a bad omen. Well, we didn't catch anything stellar but we caught a mess of trout, lizard fish, lady fish, pin fish, puffer fish and a couple of redfish. Oh yeah, and a tiny little flounder! I invited my 20" trout home for dinner and let another 19" live for another day. Here are my lovely trout:

This is a weird fish... redfish head, no spot, weird pattern and the scales were more like a snapper than a red but it did thump like a drum. At the risk of looking stupid can someone tell me exactly what this fish is? I have taken several pics....

And last but not least is my little flounder. Isn't he cute?

That's a very interesting fish. I've got no clue what it is though. Looks like the product of a redfish that mated with a croaker.

This is the 2nd one of these that my brother and I have caught. Both were exactly the same even as to size. Weird.

It sure looks like an Atlantic Croaker with a little more Redfish in him than others. They're in the same family with Redfish.
Cool looking fish, how was the fight?

Steve,

It fought just like a redfish. It sure does look like that Atlantic Croaker. I bet that's what it is! :o)

That's not a slam in our neck of the woods, but I'll take the congrats from you anyway!

My vote, an Atlantic Croaker on steroids. Usually only that big in the Northern Gulf marshes (LA, MS, AL) and the East coast, MD, VA area.

Atlantic Croakers have barbels on the chin, strange fish for sure.

Yeah Todd, that's the only thing missing. Whiting? Really? I didn't think they had redfish faces or markings on them but then it's been a REALLY long time since I've caught one.

I caught 4 of those this AM @CRB........They seemed a little big for Atlantic Croaker......State record is 4lbs the ones I caught this AM were in the 3-4lb range for sure......Wierd fish they took Gold DARTs like candy, really didn't fight like a Red although they fought better than a trout........Oh they were schooled up as well and it was one after another....... :? :? :? :?

Sure looks like an Atlantic Croaker to me. I caught a whiting this morning and it really didn't look like that at all.

That is a croaker, no doubt. That's the biggest one I have seen in a long, long time. Nice catch.

Additional .02, each year in the upper Gulf region (grew up fishing the Louisiana/Mississippi Gulf Coast) fish very similar to this one show up about this size and larger during the fall of the year until late November. The locals called them "Bull Croakers".

After Hurricane Katrina they stopped showing up in the usual deep holes along the coast and inland in the brackish rivers and bays like the Jordan and Pearl Rivers and Biloxi and Bay of St Louis. Maybe seeing these guys in the area is a freak event or some new natural migration....

I'm just sayin.....
