A Few Drum

Post by Dustin »

The redfish and tarpon were completely absent today for some reason, but there were drum literally everywhere. I only threw at four drum today in favor of chasing reds, but I hooked three of the four and landed two. All of them ate a spinnerbait as usual. The thing is deadly on drum in these parts. Nothing gigantic today, but a few average fish:

Small ones (under 5 lds) are just fine like a red fish. Big ones are full of worms but if you don't mind eating worms they are not all that bad. I mean they are full of worms. They get huge too 50 lb fish are caught ocationally under some of the Tampa Bay bridges like Gandy and Palm River.

Steve,

Yeah, they really eat a spinnerbait well. I think they see it much better than other lures (or baits). The key is finding them where they aren't tailing but are still visible.

I"ll have to give it a try, I know the red variety will certainly eat one, why not the black ones.

That worked for me this morning. The tailers wouldn't touch a fly.
