Cheap Seat Riser for Ultimates

Post by MrSpectaculous »

I used an inner tube meant for a tractor. ($29.00)

Doubles as flotation.

Wouldn't you prefer to have the valve stem pointed down then?..... then again some may not!

Just got a Ultimate 14 and used your inner tube idea. Didn't use as big an inner tube so it only raises it 4 inches (probably 3.5 once I sit on it). Looked at all the other homemade solutions out there but just didn't want anything that was permanent.

I like the idea of being able to remove it if the weather or seas go bad and you don't want to be sitting up as high.

Congrats on the new boat Rik. I hope you enjoy your native as much as I do mine. I used 4in corrugated pipe to raise my seat. Works great.

Rik, Congrats on getting an Ultimate. They really are a very versatile boat. Raising the seat 2-3 inches is plenty imho. Do you know that their is a forum dedicated to this boat? If you don't and would like the link please let me know and I'll be happy to share it with you.

Can you guys enlighten me on the benefit(s) of raising the Native seat? Is it just about extra visibility?

When you are an Old Fart like some of these Geezers.......A raised seat helps them Stand Up.........I myself on the other hand use the Chuck Norris leap........

For me, it's more comfortable sitting up 6" higher, and it makes for easier paddling of this boat. It's almost as if you are perched in a lazy boy in your living room! I never roll without the riser.

Inner tube didn't work for me. Something about the seat bouncing around separate from the boat had me off balance. 3" PVC pipes with 1x4's across has raised it 3 and 3/4 inches. Trying it tomorrow.
