Anyone know what kind of fish this might be?

Post by Cowgirl623 »

One of my co-workers goes out fishing everyday he is off. The other day he caught a fish that was built just like a red but was silver and white. It was 22 1/2 inches but he was unable to get any pics. He said that it definetly was not a mullet. Does anyone know what it might be?

Whiting are in the drum family. I have caught whiting over 25" thought it was a red til I saw the barbel under his chin.

I didn't say a drum since he did not mention any black markings. He said it was silver and white.

I have caught reds on white sandy beaches that look totally different. Very white...

Well reds are drum also. Depending on what area of the country you live in. My guess is it was a black drum, with lighter marking because of the water clarity. Could have been a red without a spot also.

Croaker up here in NC are totally differenct species. But have similiarities to reds but much smaller.

And we call whiting, Viriginia Mullet. We used to catch "mullet" all the time growing up, who knew I have probably caught more whiting in my life than Neil.

He caught it somewhere down by Mote Marine on a dead stick shrimp. Well thanks for all the information I will pass it on.
