I finally have some time to throw up a few pics of my project rod. I am still waiting on a few made to order pieces to come in. Ferrules and hex winding checks are not commonly stocked for 7/8wt size rods.
What I started with, seated with the reel I will be fishing on this rod.
Blank stripped and sanded with most of the components in, note backorder notice from Goldenwitch. I have been waiting for 3 weeks.... About enough invested at this time to buy a mid level scott, winston, or sage.
Ferrules are set, male must be taken down by hand the last .001" for exact fit. One is perfect, one fits well but is a frog hair loose.
The winding begins, pearsall's gossamer silk, incredibly thin and makes for a tedious wind. What other colors is a man to use?
After a coat of 50% spar varnish. True colors beginning to show.
Tip and mid sections drying in my shower/dust free room after being dipped in 90% spar varnish.
A few light sandings between coats (36 hour min. dry time) and this rod goes from drab classic to knockout beauty.
I am quite pleased so far. Updates to follow once components for butt section arrive.
Oh yeah, one more thing eating up all my time. I started brewing my own beer. Here s the label I made for the last batch.
