Lines....

Post by noles »

Ok, what lines are you guys using and why? My 8wt Airflo line needs replacement (it broke when I was stretching it), I have SA lines on my tarpon reels but would like to try something different on the 8wt. Rio, Airflo ridge line, or even Monic. I have used Cortland Lazer and Wuff Triangle Taper in the past and never liked them. So let's have it?

7wt, SA streamer express intermediate.....gets the flies down to the trout.
also throw cortland 444 bonefish taper on the 7 as my floating line, as it recomended to me by a friend...

9wt, I throw SA mastery redfish taper, and also plan to get the SA streamer express for the 9 as I'll be doing ALLOT of offshore fishing this year...

I personally like the Monic clear floating redfish taper. I also like the Orvis Gen3 Wonderline.

I have several 8wt lines. The SA Mastery Bonefish line is good, but my favorite is the SA Mastery Redfish line.

Scientific Anglers Mastery Saltwater Fly Line on the 9wt..overlined by one.

Cortland Lazer on the 8wt..I really don't like it either. Doesn't seem to pick up well. ( could be me tho ) It was the only 8wt line the guy in Marathon had left on the rack when I bought the rod. He was closing out eveything at 75% off.

Probably go to SA Mastery Redfish when I get around to a line change for both.

Maybe then I can get out more than 60 ft.

Rio Clouser - I throw big, heavy stuff.

Another is 444 Lazerline, which I cut off the first 5 ft.

This gives a long bellied fly line that performs better with heavy flies than saltwater/bass bug tapers.

SA Mastery Redfish Taper on my 8 wt. I like it because it loads fast and is very forgiving with my mediocre casting skills.

Hated the SA Redfish #8 on my Xi2 #8, love the Triangle Taper Bermuda #8 on it though. I really enjoyed the SA Bonefish #6 on my TFO TiCRX #6.

I would like to give Ridgeline a try but the closest place that carries them is in Orlando or Ft. Myers. I would also would like to try Monic but can't find a local shop that carries them.
