Crazed Flats Captain Assaults Volunteers In Irb
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyone know who this guy is???

A group of volunteers from Indian Rocks Beach Homeowners Association / Boat Club were out cleaning up the spoil islands as part of coastal cleanup Saturday when they got too close to a fishing guide. The volunteer boat had three children and four adults and were operating at idle speed approaching one of the islands south of the West Bay Causeway when a flats captain began screaming at the volunteers for messing up his fishing.

The "boat captain" then raised his trim tilt up and sprayed a rooster tail in an effort to drench the volunteer boat for disturbing his fishing. Then, he made two high speed passes within a few feet of the volunteer boat in an effort to spray the volunteer boat with his own boat wake, putting his charter and the the volunteers lives at risk in the wreckless operation of a commercial vessel.

The volunteer boat removed 300+lbs in 9 bags of plastic, metal and other non perishables from their assigned islands, but apparantly, a little trash was left on the water. Help the Pinellas county Sherrif identify this crazed flats captain..... who to date has not been identified. See pic below and the You Tube link for the whole video...

How dare those volunteers disturb that hard working man making a living on his water. The fact that they would dare to clean his island and area up is unfathomable. I hope he gets what is due him because of this video.

(like having his license revoked... )

He probably left half the crap on the island anyway.

I'm not making a case for the fishing jack-hole but...

If I go on a cleaning detail, that doesn't give me the right to run up on people fishing?

I'm thinking two jack-holes on the water be one cleaning trash or another fishing makes for a big stink.

I'd like to hear what his clients thought.

That's the kind of action that warrants a suspension of his Capt. licence if not a revokation. Total disregard for the safety of the people on both vessles. There were kids on the boat for pete's sake. What a TOOL.

True, but the only video you we've seen is the volunteers sitting still and that guy is moving. As to the volunteers running up on him, you'll have to take that captain's word for it and his credibility is pretty shot.

That guide was Gary S. Colecchio, without a doubt. I think.

There are two sides to every story, check out the thread on Fl Sportsman. Looks like both of the boat drivers were being rude and obnoxious.
