WHATS WORKING FOR YOU?

Post by BlueTuna »

What are you catching and what are you using? Don't want to know where just wondering whats working.

With the PFTS starting soon there may be need for some of us to use different lures that we are rusty on or have used only a few times. I know I need the practice!

Thanks

Throw a spoon. You'll catch fish.

Is this where I list the crappy plugs that I cleaned out of my tackle box to make room for stuff that is killin' 'em right now?

You can go wrong with a Mirrodine or Top water like a Spook JR or She Pup.

I still carry way too much but for flats fishing by kayak I haven't been using anything else in a long while.

#1 Mullet colored Rapala Skitterwalk till the top water bite dies.

#2 Old Bayside NiteGlow or one of their dark color shrimp on a MissionFishin chart. jighead. 1/16Oz for 2 to 3 feet of water and 1/8Oz for 4 to 6 feet of water

#3 Gulp 3" Shrimp in New Penny or Natural for dead stickin the mangroves or the 2 to 4 ft deep pot holes. Typically on a 1/16Oz jighead. Sometimes w/ a small float.

Nothing worked for me today, since my truck broke down. But I had plans, oh such plans. Not to be.

Super Spook Jr. in Bone color or other light colors

1/16 and 1/8 jigheads, Exude jerk baits and DOA C.A.L. soft plastics (split and shad tail, pink and white is my go to color)

Spro bucktail jigs 1/4 and 3/8 ounce sizes

Thats honestly all thats ever in my tackle box. I usually use the spook in the early morning to find fish on the flats... then thouroughly work the spots I found fish in with the soft plastics and jigs to slay the less aggressive fish that are lower in the water column. As for night fishing trips I'm a docklight kinda guy... and fast moving soft plastics around the edges of the light are money.

I've heard that before so it must be true.

What's working

Would any of you folks who fish spoons be willing to share how you work them?

Cast, reel, repeat. Vary reeling speed until you find what works. Sometimes it is having the spoon working at and through the top edges of the grass. Sometimes it is having the spoon zip along near the surface. Sometimes it is having the spoon move along near and occasionally bumping the bottom.

Most often, though, the slowest speed that you can reel while keeping the spoon from getting hung up is the best.
