I use Humminbird Matrix on my stink pot :) Its a good lil fishfinder. pretty accurate. If i were to do it over again, i would get a color fishfinder for my boat. Not so sure what you need a fish or depthfinder in a kayak. I do all or most of my fishing in the shallows or along tree lines.
For GPS i would recommend Garmin.

I've got an eTrex handheld but I'm planning on doing more deep water fishing in the future. I've always been of mindset that most fish are caught in less than 3' of water and that still holds true except when there's reef fishing involved. I'm looking at a few different combos but haven't messed with Humminbird since I was in my teens.

Mark, if you are looking for a combo unit that does it all, this is feature packed with just about all that you will ever need. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=148&pID=8055 I've done a little research, as I thought that I might purchase this unit and all, including the charts (satellite overlay), can be had for around $500 online. Still, it is not a handheld unit, and an auxillary battery would be needed.

I'm interested, mainly in the satellite overlay and the NEXRAD radar feature and have on order Busnell's Onix 400. http://bushnell.com/gps/gps.cfm?setcook ... &interest=
They have not hit the market yet, but should be available to ship from Cabela's around the middle of this month. Price is $500. I'll write a review after receiving and trying out.

Harbor Freight has this fish finder on sale for $39.99. It is probably low quality, but who knows, it might be worth checking out.
