Actually, I leave a week from Monday on what has turned out to be an annual trip in mid to late September for me, my brother and a buddy of ours.

We go to Grant Lake ( gateway north outfitters) drive over the border at Intl Falls to Ontario, actually Emo, Ontario, then about a 45 minute flight to the cabin. Have also been to Fishtrap Lake (l&m fly in). We have used both of these outfitters (same family) and they are great. Fishin is wonderful, plenty of spunky smallmouth, 50 a day, each , largest so far is 4 lbs. and northerns, some big uns, last trip I had one 36 incher, one of the guys had a 40 incher and one caught a 12 lb. lake trout. Fishtrap (L&M Fly in) has better walleye but smaller bass. Not caught a muskie yet, but I love them smallies. Catch and release, but each person can keep two fish a day to eat.

Deal is, they fly us, our gear and our food in and come pick us up 5 days later. You have everything you need, comfortable cabin (no electricity, but gas stove and frig, solar lights and water heater (lukewarm at best) and the outhouse is of a simple design. We each have our own 14 ft. boat with 10 hp motor. We are the only cabin on the lake and the only way to describe the experience is idyllic. Nothing like sitting out under the stars by a campfire listening to wolves howl and the loons call. Seen beavers, bald eagles (dozens), moose. Haven't seen bear yet, but have seen tracks.

I highly recommend this experience. If you contact these folks mention that the Willocks brothers referred you, they are very friendly and almost all of their business is repeats, so that should tell you something. There are some baaaad outfitters out there.

Reminds me of the fishing trip to Oba lake in Canada. My grandfather and the uncles took my brother and me. For 2 weeks, fished for Northern pike and Walleye. Pike were for the fight and the walleye were taken home for dinner. No fly in, just a nice train ride to the station and a boat ride to the cabin. We did see some moose and got to feed the local woodchuck some scraps. 8)
