I went out this morning to a falling tide and ran across a bunch of mullet. They were mudding pretty well, so I started pitching a gold spoon. Tied onto a very nice red that I released. Hooked and lost another. I was surrounded by reds at one point and wish I had the flyrod instead. But none the less, I had a great time.

This is the first red I ever caught on a spoon. I tried and tried, but to no avail. Ladyfish no problem, jacks...all day, but no reds ever! I figured I would only pitch that spoon until I got a red.

Thanks
Bob

I need to do that also. And I need to take only the flyrod out with me to use on occassion.

Glad you finally got hooked up on the gold spoon, Bob. The Dunedin area is a nice place to fish. If it wasn't so far for me, I'd fish there more often.

I'm not real sure about the desire everyone has to catch a fish on certain lures. As long as I'm catching I'm content with whatever I may be tossing. It's really only personal preference as far as I can tell, I have caught fish on pretty much everything. I have found that if you find the fish, the majority of the time you catch the fish, with watever you have with you at the time.

Mullethead - I could be in the minority here. For me, it is the "challenge of catching" that I enjoy. The fact that I haven't caught a redfish on a spoon makes me want to do so!

Agreed, it's the challenge, I once thought catching redfish on topwater was a myth. It took me almost two years to finally do it, and now topwater is one of my favorite methods to fish for reds. Sticking with the challenge will instill you with confidence when you do succeed, and you'll add another skill to your arsenal.

DaveR - I'm not 100% sure, but I think we are both married. We could of course go fishing together SOTE. :D

Isn't it the "challenge" that we all love? Ok -- so some like the "trophy."

Guess you're just not much of a trophy, Dave.

Terry,
If you have a spare daughter to marry off, I might be interested.

Dunedin? There's no fish up here. I told Bob/FLA to just post that to mess with you guys.

I only have the one who calls in the bait reports from the beach to me. That really cute, blonde one. The one who is going kayakfising with me and Moe one day soon. You're welcome to tag along with us. Linzy certainly must have some age-appropriate friends for you. :D

A swing...and a miss! Age appropriate? My age range is 18 to 54.

No, I don't want to go along with Moe. I hear he's a hole-jumper!
