Drift sock is fine when drifting an open flat except that you can't drift a zig zag pot hole to pothole path without lots of adjustments. By moving my right foot 2 inches, I can change the course of my kayak.

I hate to think about trying to wind drift a mangrove shoreline with a drift chute.

There's no right or wrong, it is what works for you. Having tried both, I choose having a rudder. IMO, you folks that are rudderless are really missing a great tool.

Also if you hook a good red or snook with drift chute out I have a feeling it would be a lot harder to pull out the way then with the simple line for a rudder.

So it slows you down. It offers you no flexibility for steering.
FAIL.

On my Native Ultimate (older model) I have a skeg I can raise and lower. I guess it is because of the hull design but I can tell a big difference in the tracking esspecially in the wind with the skeg down.
