Hit the Everglades for the last time until December. Action was good, but shortened by thunderstorms. Those storms, high water, heat and bugs make The 'Glades tough to fish until cooler, dryer weather.
For the most part, we used 3- and 4-weight fly rods, Myakka Minnows and/or No. 10 poppers. We totaled 150 oscar, Mayan cichlid, largemouth bass, bluegill and stumpknocker. Obviously, our total would have better more impressive had the trip not been shortened.
Oscar and Mayan cichlid were severely hit by the 2010 freeze. My last three trips to the Everglades has showed the exotics are making a strong comeback.
These fish are incredible fighters on light fly rods. And they're very willing to cooperate.
You don't go long without a hit when you're fishing The 'Glades.

Looks like a great trip.
Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.
