Friday at the Skyway

Post by Urban Legend II »

After a 2 hour drive, we got to Oneil’s in St. Pete before daylight to pick up a few live shrimp. A quick glance at the weather channel confirmed that we were going to get wet this morning.
We decided to cross to the South side of the Skyway and try the flats and around Joe Island. Tide was high and the clouds were headed our way.
Met a yaker coming in as we were putting out, didn't get his name, but I am sure he thought we were crazy for fishing that morning, but when I told him we were coming from Orlando and Savannah, he said, "Well if that's the case then, you have to fish...."

Met two more "locals" who were also obviously crazy because they pushed out right behind us. It didn't take long find the Specs.

They were getting bigger and then I looked over my shoulder.....

Time to do something different!!!

After getting back to shore safely, we decided to wait it out. I spent all of last year waiting for the opportunity for a slam while sitting in the desert outside of Tikrit, Iraq, so waiting a few more minutes or hours was a no-brainer!

After an hour and a half rain delay and a trip to another bait shop in Bradenton off we went heading for the mangroves for part two.....

soon after came the second piece of the puzzle....

another round of light showers and finally.......Mission accomplished!

and one for the road....

All in all, we met 3 other devoted yakers and saw quite a few fish caught, but there were no monsters, still it was a good day on the water.

Thanks Rik for the intel...

Definately was a good day of fishing even though the dinks and cats seemed to prefer my bait over everyone elses. I look forward to exploring this area more......soon.

Great report! Maybe a little pre-coordination and we can arrange a 2-3 day trip here next time.

Roger Zero Six,

That's a good copy. Since you are no longer the Tarpon "FNG" you can share your new found expertise on catching those Silver Shadows!
