Rory's Kayak Tarpon

Post by shallow pockets »

Rory O'Connor of Bellingham Washington fished with me today. Rory's goal was to catch his first Tarpon. The conditions were horrible. Like a giant washing machine out there today but that didnt stop us. We pressed on. Around 8 am Rory makes his first cast to a rolling fish. Still dont know how he even saw the fish in 4ft waves with white caps but his crab got munched as soon as it hit the water and he was on tight. After a short battle he caught and landed his first Tarpon.

Conditions were not good and kept getting worse. No good for fish or fisherman. Luck was on your side.

Good stuff Steve!
Over every mountain there is a path, although it may not be seen from the valley

Congratulations. Job well done. Then next to last picture is amazing. Did he get any shots or video with the PlaySport mounted on the front of his kayak?
Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.

Video to follow. His battery died and he lost most of the footage but I took some with mine. We are putting together what we have from both cameras. The fish only had a couple good jumps and I think we missed both of them.

Good and lucky has it's advantages. It need not be one or the other.
