Fishing guides?

Post by Gator »

I'm planning on taking my 2 boys (both under 10 y/o) out with a guide over the summer to do some fishing. I'm looking for a guide that is more kid friendly and can put them onto a lot of action. Of course I'd like to catch that fish of a lifetime too though :D . Can anyone suggest a good guide? Looking for someone from the Sarasota to St. Pete area.

My recommendation for kayak guide is Neil Taylor. Don't know any stinkpotter guides.

Neil Taylor is your man, especially with kids in tow.

I would also recommend Neil Taylor. If you are not looking for a kayak guide, check out Brent Gaskill, great with kids.

If the kids are under 10, I'm not sure if kayaks are a good idea. I would call Neil Taylor and see what he thinks. Othersize, I would find a guide with a big boat and lots of patience.

Shallow pockets, Steve M Gibson, takes his own kid out quite often. Do a search and you'll find some pics with a young toothy grin.

Plus, he's a member here.

Thanks Rik.
Kayaking with young chidren can be alot of fun. I wouldn't suggest a kayak charter any longer than 4 hrs in the summer. I like to take the little ones through the Mangrove tunnels in Sarasota. First couple hrs fishing then a paddle through the tunnels for a break from the sun. http://www.shallowpocketsfishing.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Not ashamed to admit that I will occasionally use the pros to get the skunk off!

I have been out with Capt Chad Manning 4 or 5 times in the last 4 years and he has always been able to put me on the fish including my first sight fished Snook.

In the beginning I had to convince him I didn't need him to bait the hook or cast the rod for me. So he is pretty patient. Worth giving him a call I initially saw him on Reel Animals Fishing Show. On my last trip, we hit a school of reds at FD and got 8 over-slot in just under 45 mins. I have the pics to prove it. :shock:

Here is his link http://www.fishandgritscharters.com

Here he is on the Addictive Fishing Show with Capt Blair Wiggins

He uses a network of other Capts to stay tuned in to the bite and will find the fish, you just have to catch them.
