Dang...I've been trying to get this guy on a splash down for about 2-3 years now. Best shot I had was on an old Pro1 200mm; looks like I need +300mm. The middle photo is decent, but there's a bunch of grain.
Any recommendations that aren't L series (mucho dinero...)? Shotting Canon T2i - used a 18-135mm (not too bad for 135).

Two good choices to add to your outfit:
-Canon 70-300 mm IS currently a $150. instant rebate till 6/18 = $499.99
-Tamron 70-300 mm VC . $50 mail in rebate $50 till 7/31 = about same as Canon
Other choices are not IS/VC and run about half the price.
IS & VC are both anti shake. The Tamron is a bit better.
both in stock at http://www.lakeshorecamera.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks for the advice...may have to wait a bit before plunking down $300-500 - dems serious dough (well for me it is).
