An acclaimed outdoorsman who wrote movingly about testing himself against nature is presumed dead after a crocodile snatched him from his kayak
Guess he failed that test.

Crocs ain't gators Gary. I have paddled many times among big gators and while at first unnerving, fear eases and the joy of such an experience soon takes over. Nile and saltwater crocs are as different in temperment as rattlesnakes and corn snakes.

"Crocs ain't gators Gary.''

I know Gators arent as agressive as Crocs Dave.
It just made me think of all the times I paddled past one in a 12 foot wide canal.
Kinda like walking by a lions cage with the door unlatched. He probaby wont bother you but .....

Gators are cute and cuddly compared to Crocs. The few Crocs I saw in Flamingo really didn't give me that warm fuzzy feeling no matter how many times I paddled past them at Christian point. Even the salt water Gators over in the Merrit Island area are fun to play with from time to time! :drunken:

Mud Lake in ENP has a solid 14 foot croc that travels between Mud and Bear and parts beyond.

There was another really big croc that lived in and around the Flamingo marina, but it died in last year's cold snap.

Had very close calls with both gators and crocs. Either one can ruin your day, so be careful around both.
