So long, and thanks for all the fishing!

Post by Hooked »

Want to say thanks to all you folks for friendships and fishing over these past 10 years. I’m taking a job up in the DC area, moving up there Labor Day weekend. While I’ll be back to visit, my fishing days around here are pretty much done for a few years. Headed out to Miguel this coming Saturday for my last shot at snook! I’ll have to learn to catch rockfish up on the Chesapeake when I get some time on my hands. Even better – I’m getting back to the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers to chase smallmouth with a fly rod is going to take up a lot of Saturdays!

When I moved down here and got my first canoe, I was clueless about fishing the flats and mangroves. Great advice from lots of you folks has helped me improve not only my fishing skills, but more, my enjoyment of the water and the critters in it. Fishing smarter makes the day that much more enjoyable!

The job I’m headed to is amazing. I’ll be the IT Manager for a new Army command that coordinates care and rehab for wounded soldiers. You can check out their web site at http://www.aw2.army.mil/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. The commander is an Artillery Colonel who lost both legs above the knee to an IED. He’s been able to stay on active duty, and I am excited to be working for him. I’d not leave this area for just any job, but couldn’t turn this down.

My prayer for all of you here is that your days on the water be many, regrets few, and may God smile on you and your families.

Thanks again – keep your lines tight and hulls up!

Oh my gosh, Lou. We've never hooked up even though we've tried. I'll try to join you at Miguel on Saturday.

Congratulations on a terrific job. Awesome. I love the Chesapeake, but I've only sailed it, not fished it... yet.
You are going to be much closer to some other kayak buddies so be sure you check out the guys at susquehannafishing.com. Totally terrific group of kayak anglers.

I hope you also will work with Jim Dolan of Heroes on the Water (heroesonthewater.org).

Please let us know when you'll be back in the T-Bay area and god speed.

Good luck! My brother is in Alexandria and kayak fishes there. The Orvis shop in Arlington has some good people in it. I'm a CISSP and have gotten alot of pressure from my brother to head that direction as well. Haven't had the guts to do it yet. Good luck up there. You'll have to get in touch with the Tidal Potomac Fly Rodders group. Seem to be a nice bunch of people.
