Jesse and I decided late Friday night we would go look for the mighty silver king Saturday morning. It all started when I was putting new terminal tackle on my big rod I just had a good feeling can't really explain it? So 6am came around and we were pulling are kayaks into the surf of the warm gulf waters. Everything seemed perfect no wind, Flat seas, and no one else around. Just after launching we started feeling the slightest of raindrops. Oh well we are already here. We began looking for bait just as the sun was rising behind the stormy looking clouds to the east. Not much action a few rollers here and there I finally caught a grunt and decided he would be the first victim of the morning. About 5 minutes later I pulled up a pinfish and told Jesse he could have it so we would both have baits in the water. Before he could even get the pinfish BAM! SPLASH! ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ! And the first poon was in the air and heading for Mexico. She pulled us out a little ways but Jesse and I decided to tow the poon to the beach. I really gotta give it to Jesse he paddled his ass off as I fought the fish. We eventually got to the beach where the real fight began. She had me to my backing at least twice completely and close to a third time. After an awesome 30-40 minute fight we had the Silver king in our arms. What a beautiful and powerful creature. After a long reviving session we let her go. Now to get Jesse a poon we saw quite a few rolling but they quickly disappeared. But I did see something I never thought I would see in July; easily a 40lb+ king fish sky rocket less than 20ft away from me with a lady fish in its mouth. Jesse got a nice flounder but no poon today we will be back soon to get another fish!
You can see in some of the pictures it is still raining!
