Well, I have. But I suspect that there was something else involved.Mako wrote:5 on the braided line, 3 on the leader....never lost a fish to a bad knot

I do 4 on the leader and 5 on the braid. As someone who used this knot for 15 years in bass fishing, I have never had this knot fail. I use this knot directly to a hook sometimes with 4 to 5 wraps. You can also use it as a loop knot, if you don't cinch it all the way down. However, the first fish you catch will cinch the knot.
nope....I don't see the need for it.....the only time I ever used a double line was back in my younger days of fishing for marlin in Venezuela. The fish that we go after here are too short for a double lineseeinred wrote:Peter do you double your braided line when tying it?Mako wrote:5 on the braided line, 3 on the leader....never lost a fish to a bad knot

I was not a proponent of braided lines & still use them on only a couple of rods. I really love the sensitivity when the bite is light on soft plastics.
I'm really a newb when it comes to the braid/fluoro combination. I've (for the short time I've used it) always used a surgeons knot.
What are the pros & cons to this knot vs the uni-uni.

I'll have to try it Peter, I'm using normally 10lb braid and in the past I've had problems with that knot breaking with even heavier lb braid.

I use this
Surgeons Knot
This knot is normally used to tie two monofilaments together, as with a tippet to leader. The knot is fast and easy to tie and has a high breaking strength. The number of turns can be varied, but 3-4 turns work well on most lines.

I go with 4 on the leader and no more and then 5 or 6 on the braid when using 10 lb braid and up to 25lb floroarbon leader. If I happen to be using heavier leader or line I add 2 or three wraps on the braid end. But I have found 10lb test with 20 or 25 lb test leader to easily handle everything I have fished for from my kayak. That could change if I ever get up the nerve to try Tarpon. But I will probably leave them alone and just be an observer. I would hate to cause the death of one due to my inexperience.
I have never had a leader come undone and using the the 4 wraps on the leader allows the line to pass through the guides and tip top easily (when tied properly and tightly).
