Altering a shimano Terramar Rod

Post by Talltails »

I bought a medium action 7'6' terramar rod. I really like the Medium light action rod, but wanted a little more beef for certain species. My problem is the butt length. It's two inches longer and just doesn't feel properly balanced for my stradic 3000 reels. I don't notice the added butt length from my skiff , but when sitting down and casting from a yak  , it bugs me.

Question: Does anyone know if it will affect the backbone of the rod to cut two inches from the butt? If not, is this an easy operation, and is the cork end easily repaired?

No, it should affect the rod action. Anything behind the area of the reel does not come into affect unless you are holding onto the butt to put pressure on the fish. In most cases you can put more pressure on the butt to overcome the shorter length. It is relatively easy to shorten the butt of a spinning rod. I think it has been addressed on this forum a number of times. Just search back through the threads.
