New toy for myself...

Post by noles »

Santa was kind to me for Christmas, so he had me build myself a new 8wt rod. It's a 4-piece 8wt using the CTS Affinity Salt blank. I used Fuji Titanium guides, aluminum reel seat, and a custom grip. The guides were wrapped with chestnut thread and bronze metallic trim.

Here's some pictures:

The grip was turned by me; it's an inlay of birch bark, burnt cork, & Portuguese cork. This is the second rod I built using birch bark; which has a great feel to it. Very time consuming to construct since you have to punch out circles from the birch bark, then glue then up individually. But the end result is awesome.

Image
This is the best picture I can get of the inlay, its a combination of peacock feathers. The photo does not do justice to the colors of the feathers.

Instead of using dots, I used jungle cock feathers for the alignment dots.

It must hurt like a SOB to pluck those but they do make a nice presentation.
Paddles - they aren't just for the bedroom anymore.

Another sweet rod. You must really love those CTS Affinity Salt blanks. Isn't that like the 2nd or 3rd one you've done for yourself?
