Excuse my ignorance please but what is the allure of shad fishing? I have never done it before and know nothing about it.

YEah...some nerve that forced2work character has! His wife FINALLY "broke" him off a with a little nooky (evidence is the child) and all of the sudden he gets all cocky! Good thing he only gets it on the holidays or we'd have to hear his mouth more often!

Can't say I'm an expert by any means, but shad are fun to catch. The run a couple of pounds up, they hit hard, fight hard and jump, etc., have tender mouths so you have to play them easy. Supposedly on good days if you find them you can catch them until you are tired of it ....

Shad run only lasts for a bit here in the winter time ...

Google up "shad run St. Johns river" and you'll get some good reading material ....

Shad give me an excuse to poke around in the Puzzle Lake section of the St. Johns, which is as cool a place as there is north of the Everglades. I always say I'll go out there during the year to bass fish, but I haven't made it yet. Shad get me there in the winter time, and I have a blast each time I go.

Puzzle lake...the last time I was there I stepped onto what I thought was solid ground and ended up with one leg "thigh" deep in the mucky-muck!
