The "Hatch" is back

Post by Snook712 »

I got to Steinhatchee around 8 am today and hit the ultimate full moon low tide. For those who know the area, it was dry land from the channel at Rocky Creek to Bird island.

I spent the first few hours fishing topwaters and tore up the trout. They were all good size with a few puffers, lizards and assorted junk mixed in. I even cought a hulk sized pinfish on the skitterwalk.

Finally, the largest trout I have ever had on my line got right to the kayak and decided to keep my skitterwalk as a souvenier.

I switched to a chug bug but it had no mojo.

As the tide came in, I concentrated on reds. Very few tailers but I hooked up three on exude slugs and redfish magic. The red bite is not where it should be for October.

Good job Roger!
I have been actually catching some good trout down here.
Not true big bend gator trout but, some fat ones for sure in the 18"-22" range.

I've gotta get up there to go fishing with you guys.

Nice work on the trout Roger. Keep on working on those reds. The weather had them out of pattern down here this week, perhaps it's the same type thing going on up there too.
