Stakeout Pole

Post by seeinred »

Who here has made their own stakeout pole and has some photos/instructions on how to do it? I was thinking PVC, but then again I'm not sure how sturdy it would be.

I use a pool cue. $16 at Wal-Mart.

It has flames on it so it is pretty cool.

1. Broom Stick (paint it if you think it will clash with your Columbia wear  )
2. 3/4" PVC T
3. 4-6" of PVC cut on a 45°
4. Glue the ends on (Gorilla Glue,Goop ect.)

If you don't want to use the scupper hole add a line...

Mine is a 6' long piece of 3/4" sch 40 PVC I had left over with a T that I bought, spray painted bright orange. Total outlay with paint = $5.00. Cut the end at an angle to help it dig into the bottom. Plenty durable so far, no problems in choppy water and strong winds. The 3/4" fits a Marquesa scupper. I used 1/2" to fit my sons Mojo, it seems to be okay but flexes quite a bit more, if it does break I'll probably re-doe it with a dowel inside.

Gorilla glue $6
PVC $5
wooden dowel $5
paint $4
$20 in gas
Total $40

This is indestructable and wont wear out because of exposure like PVC does.

Right.........

Gorilla Glue is $6 is you use the whole bottle. Probably more like 50 cents worth.

PVC - a 10' piece is $5. Call this $2.50 although I used a piece that was laying around from another project. Same with the Tee fitting, had one in the garage.

Wooden dowel is about $2

Paint - paint?

Gas - $20 maybe if that is all you went to get and you have to drive a long, long way. At 20 mpg, $20 is a 200 mile round trip. Nobody goes that far to find a Home Depot. Let's call this $3 and assume you make a special trip just for the stakeout pole.

Realistic total - $8.00

My PVC stakeout pole has lasted 3 years so far with no sign of decline.

Rik, you asume everyone has stuff laying around the house. Most guys need to go to home depot to stock up. And what man do you know that can go in home depot and leave spending only $8. And who the hell gets 20 miles to the gallon? If I drive my truck to the 7-11 it costs $5. Point is I dont work for Capt. Dick or get a profit, Just letting the guy know its a fine piece of equiptment.

I do....

Yes, Capt. Dick's stakeout pole is a fine piece of equipment. It is the Rolls Royce of stakeout poles and I've said that often. There isn't a better built stake out pole out there.

I just can't bring myself to spend $70 on a stake I'm going to stick in the mud when a $5 piece of PVC will do the job just as well. Nothing wrong with those that do spend the money, though.

I agree with Rik here. I just can't fathom spending that kind of money on a stake out pole.

I'm gonna build my own.

And I get way over 20 miles a gallon. Hondas rule your face.

Well, I don't exactly have the money to buy a $75 stake out pole, I think I'll be making my own.

Thanks for the replies though guys!
