Aloha from the Big Island

Post by uplandhawaii »

Aloha braddahs, I'm Stafford and I'm just getting into kayak fishing. Been shore/boat fishing my entire life but decided to cut some costs from my hobbies and take up yak fishing. Saves me gas and gets me some exercise!
I just recently picked up a malibu 2 and have started to rig it up. I'm a short and heavy guy so I wanted a wide and stable yak to do some bottom fishing and maybe drifting live bait. I've been practicing flipping and getting back in, pretty hard to do, I'm hoping that I'll get proficient enough to where I can hit the deeper water with my more experienced buddies.

I'm hoping to have some pictures of my first yak caught fish to post within the month. I'll be sticking to the bay and shallows until I get the hang of this!

Welcome upland.

We have another guy on here from Hawaii. His name is Uncle Ji and his location is listed as Kailua
Over every mountain there is a path, although it may not be seen from the valley

Welcome. Look forward to seeing reports from the islands.
Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.

Thanks, my friends nicknamed my kayak the "yak of death" because of the number of times I've flipped it! Figured the skulls were appropriate!

Shootz brah. No pictures yet of some Big Island fish? I'll keep checking back, but I'm looking forward to some different scenery and fish, good luck!

No pictures yet, haven't been able to catch anything worth while to post up. Maybe tomorrow, I'll be heading out into more productive grounds!
