First Redfish in 22-25 years.

Post by TRKpoker »

Last time I went fishing for redfish was about 25 years ago when my grandfather took me. He passed away a few years later after a bad bout of cancer. He got better for a short time (we didn't know if it would last or not) and I told him when he was better we would go fishing. I never found time, college and work, and within a few months he got sick again and passed. One of the greatest regrets of my life was not making the time to go fishing with him again. Well on Dec 9th I went to Flamingo and went for redfish. Ended up catching 3 slot reds and had a great day. I hope the old man was looking down smiling. He isn't huge but he is 22".

Nice job on the reds.

I know what you mean about your grandfather. My dad passed away 2 years ago and wish I had made a few more fishing trips with him when he was able to go. Like you said, I'm sure they're proud as they look down watching!

I'm sure he was as he sent those Reds your way!
Now... 22-25 years, sounds like to me you've got some serious catching-up to do!!!

Thanks and yea over 20 years is way too long but in my defense this is the first year with a boat of my own of any type. Also where I am located is right between redfish areas. North 100+miles are redfish and South of me 100+ miles is redfish but here in the Broward/Miami area it is not happening. I have heard that on the south end of Biscayne Bay you can sometimes pick up redfish but that is still over 65 miles so just about the same. My trailer will be done soon and I will be making more runs to get them.
