Thinking about coming over from Tampa to fish the NMZ in a few weeks. Any of you guys on the east coast recommend a good camp ground thats not far from the refuge?

I'm on the East Coast, but maybe a little to far North for a good recommendation. This is some info I received on an inquiry I made earlier in the year.

Kars Park

I'm just passing along what little I know. Hope someone can verify yay or nay!
BTW - I went West instead of East during my vacation in the Orlando area. Let me know how you do.

I didn't know anything about the area, did a google search an this came up. Seems that Kars Park will cost you $5.00 to get in for the day, but reading the article, well it may be worth it. Of course this article is somewhat of an advertisement, so who knows!

After checking the link has an error, but check the Banana River article on the page you get to, same article I found .... Tech stuff is not my specialty

KARS park is one of the main launch spots for kayaks in the NMZ.

You can camp at Manatee Hammock campground in south Titusville/Port St. John. That's about a 15 minute drive to KARS.

Paddle out to one of the spoil islands, pop up a tent, and you're camping. Kars park is a good starting point though. It used to be for NASA employees but those rules have changed over the last few years.

I just bought 2 1/2 acres in Oakhill. PM me if you don't find a place to stay. You can pop a tent up on my property if needed.

My pleasure! Bought a short sale and the house is a definite work in progress but you are welcome! I have a freshwater lake with lots of bass also. :)
