What areas are closed when NASA launch the shuttle?

Post by ettienne »

I was planning on going to ML tomorrow (Saturday), but that may be off limits if the shuttle launches. What areas and roads are still open during a launch?
KARS park?

Essentially, south of Haulover Canal; east of the drawbridge at Titusville. Since the bird may not lift until January, they've likely lifted the security zones.

I'll add to what Stubb said, which is correct!

The space shuttles are now launching from pad 39A. They were launching from 39B but it's being torn down or refurbished, I'm not sure which will be the final outcome for pad 39B. Pad 39A is a bit south of 39B, and that is why KARS has been closed for three days before the last few launches.

Basically, when a shuttle is on any pad the south end of Mosquito Lagoon will be off-limits. When a shuttle is on pad 39A the south end of Mosquito Lagoon and the nmz will be closed to all fishing or boating. KARS will still be open, but launching canoes or kayaks into the nmz is not allowed when a shuttle is on pad 39A; only fishing from shore is allowed then.

I hope this answered your question.
