Wanted to share this fun upcoming event for all anglers - William R. Mote Memorial Snook Shindig Research Tournament honoring Captain Scotty Moore on November 13-14 (Friday evening Captains Meeting at 6:00pm and fishing until 12:00 noon Saturday, with a awards banquet at 5:30pm-9:00pm Saturday).
This is a great opportunity for anglers of all ages and abilities to be ‘citizen scientists” and to help provide valuable information on tagged hatchery-reared snook released into Sarasota Bay. The last event was held in 2009 before the serious freeze and snook closure, since Mote has released more than 2,500 hatchery-reared snook in the Bay and need anglers help to learn more on the released fish movements and survival. They encourage children who participated in the Fishing Clinic the previous week on November 7 to participate in their first tournament for free!
The tournament includes an evening of great awards (fishing gear, artwork, gift certificates), raffles, fantastic door prizes, bags of free items, special event t-shirt with original artwork by Steve Whitlock, and a fabulous banquet in the Mote Aquarium courtyard. A bargain! See the Mote Marine Lab (http://www.mote.org/snookshindig) website for more information and to register.
