PFCS #4 - The Mystery Lure Challenge - UPDATED INFO

Post by Rik »

First off, yes, I know this is actually our 3rd event but it is on the schedule as #4 so that's what we're calling it.

Format: This is the Mystery Lure Challenge. The rules are pretty simple. You show up on the morning of January 19th at the sign in and we'll hand you a bag of lures which are the only lures you can use. You are not allowed to bring any other lures or hooks, jigheads, popping corks, split shots, etc. with you. If we find any lures on your kayak other then the lures provided you will be disqualified. You may bring a maximum of 3 fishing rods with you.

Scoring Points slam with a species kicker. You will receive 15 points each for a snook, red, trout that you catch. 10 points for a flounder and 5 points for any other species that you catch, anything that is a fish, has fins and gills, and yes you can snag a mullet for 5 points. 5 bonus points for any slam which includes snook, redfish, trout or flounder, any combo of the three. If you catch all four you get an extra 5 points. Tiebreaker is the largest redfish, that is the only fish you will need to take a picture of for length. All other fish need a simple picture with one of the lures and the token you are given clearly shown that you caught that fish on one of the given lures, length does not matter. You will also be awarded 5 extra points if you come back to the sign in with ALL of the provided lures completely intact like new and your token. If a fish is gut hooked we will take your word for it, lets be nice to the fishes.

You can only enter ONE fish of each species. Other then the redfish, it doesn't matter how long it is so you don't need to lay it out on a measuring board but you MUST have your TOKEN in EVERY picture. (I wanted to give extra point for pics of catfish and ladyfish laying in the anglers lap but I was over ruled).

So, to sum it up, take a pic of every fish you catch and only measure your redfish for length and keep the pic of the largest one. Keep your lures intact and bring them back to the sign in if you still have all of them.

The lures are all being provided by one lure sponsor. It is a good selection from their line of lures and you will likely have used at least one them in the past.

Yes, because I'm looking forward to seeing your face when you stammer and stutter "but, but, but these aren't what I thought they'd be!":

Sign me up.
Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.

It's cold out these days and I don't have as much insulation as I used to.

If its 35 degrees you'll be thanking us for the later sign in.

Working on that. Erick of OLC fame is coming down for this one and he is going to decide the format.
