Western Oregon

Post by bluebill »

We are leaving for a few weeks vacation in Oregon On July 4th. Will stay in Hillsboro near Portland and also in Corvallis and Eugene.

I will post a fishing report when I return to Florida in August. Mostly fly fishing for rainbow trout and probably a trip to the lower Umpqua for smallmouth bass.

I pray that the gushing oil well in the Gulf will be shut off by the time I return.
Be thankful for every day and especially those fine days on the water

Will the Deschutes be on the itinerary? One of my favorite rivers...

I live in Sherwood Or, not far from Hillsboro. I am thinking of moving to Tampa this summer. How's the fishing down there?

Yakman,

I lived and worked in the Tampa area in 2005 and 05. That is where I bought my first kayak.

I enjoyed fishing most of the destinations shown of this site and caught lots of trout, snook and afew redfish.

I am further south now on Pine Island. We have nearby access to a great variety of saltwater flats, channels bays and sounds here and the fishing is good.

I am waiting for the baby tarpon to show up in the local creeks. They are great at throwing hooks but fun.

And by July we can fish snook on foot from the beach.

Paddle-Fishing.com seems to have a great bundh of members so you should make contact with a few of them after you settle in to the Tampa Bay area.

I cant afford Oregon this summer The bad economy finally dried up any spare cash.

Please send me a PM after you get to Tampa.

Thanks for the info bluebill.
I head down south next weekend. I will not have time to fish this trip. I am hoping to see that yellow shiny thing in the sky. I think it's called the sun. I have not seen it in months.

The fishing here has been slow since March. The chinook are in the Willy right now. I caught a native and my buddy got a hatchery fish Tuesday. They were caught out of a boat. I am still a little spooked of sea lions, to yak fish for salmon. I have seen them steal a lot of fish out of landing nets. I would hate to have a 1000lb animal grab a 20lb fish from a 60lb kayak. Some do it here but I am a whimp.
I have done most of my yak fishing in the northeast. Mostly striped bass, bluefish, and fluke.
