At last, got some free time so it was time to brush off the cob webs and get my yak wet.
Arrived at around 06:30hrs, the sun was just peeping over the surrounding hills chasing away the mist off the lake.
It was good to be back on the water, the play boaters would not be out for a while yet so I had the lake to myself, well apart from the numerous canada geese and other wildlife.
The paddle to my first spot took longer than usual, I wasn’t in a hurry, with only a gentle breeze, the water was almost like a mill pond, the birds were singing the dawn chorus to accompany me, oh yeh, it was definitely good to be back out on the water.
I had with me 3 spinning rods, 1 med and the other 2 heavy.
A mepps spinner on the med rod, with tsunami swim shads(6”) on the other two.
On arrival at my first spot, casts were made, fish showed no interest, no worries, I was quite happy watching a mama swan go mental on a flock of canada’s for getting too close to her young, so a fish would have probably spoilt the moment anyway.
So I head off elsewhere in search of fish.
Old ma nature had been pretty busy, the autumn colors of the trees were now really starting to come out, the sun certainly helped show em off.
I fished for around and hour without so much as a sniff of a fish, time for a tea break on one of the nearby islands, then it was off back to the launch to meet my mate.
We gets his prowler big game on the water and went off for a paddle.
We did a bit of fishing here and there, but again, the fish simply did not want to play with us.
Now my mate andy had never been on this area of the lake, so I took him for the Grande tour, we stopped off on various islands, I showed him the best one for drinking tea in the mornings and another for after dinner tea.
We fished, chatted and generally paddled around just getting high off nature.
Early afternoon and still no sign of a fish, so the fishing eased off and the gentle paddling increased, sure we half heartedly cast some lures, but the day was just one of them when a fish would only have been a bonus.
We went to “bowness bay” to play dodgems with the ferries and count the tourists in the rental noddy boats.
So, after 9 hours on the water, disaster struck, I had to pour my last cup of tea, whilst I savored it, my thoughts had now turned to getting back to the launch and heading for home, oh yeh, and taking 2 flasks next time.
Gotta say, I aint been out much at all this year, but today went a long way in making up for it.
