Red Tide at Buttonwood

Last week I made two trips up to Buttonwood Bay. The first day I noted a few dead fish floating, but not lots. That day I did pretty well on snook and trout. I went back later in the week and there were lots and lots of dead fish. The air was just full of all kinds of birds feeding on the dead and dying fish. Most of the dead fish I saw were pin fish and mangrove snappers. I did not see any dead trout, snook or reds. However, the whole ecology seemed to change. I fish with DOA shadtails and usually the pin fish are constantly taking the tails of them. Did not lose one on my last trip.
I am going to stay out of there until it clears up. Would appreciate any info that anyone else has on this.

Hopefully this 'cool off' will be enough to keep us clear till next summer.

I fished North East side of the bay almost up to long bar on Saturday and noticed no effects of red tide but then again it was an east wind.

Fished Buttonwood on Saturday the 12th no dead fish, no stink, other than my catching ability. Super low tide really slow. A big fat goose egg.

That is good news, but how was the fishing? I keep hearing that the fishing is way off in most of Sarasota bay.

Slow on the flats.. saw several monster snooks in the skinny warming up but spooked before I could cast. Mullet guys were doing their thing which probably contributed to the lack of life out there. Found other snook up to 24" in deep protected cuts, had to jig low and slow.
