They're heeeere and on the beach!!!

Post by Flatz Komander »

Well....headed out this morning....a little recon mission....
Haven't seen any tarpon off the beach yet, but have seen boats looking for them all week.
Was on the water at about 5:45. Filled the baitwell with threadfins. Then it was a waiting game.
Set up off the beach and started looking....and waiting. It is amazing how your eyes will play tricks on you.
Then, it happened...tarpon...then another...and another. They were 100 yards out and heading my way. I put a threadfin on and let it swim close to the kayak. 50 yards...40 yards...30 yards...and closing. Toss the threadfin out and wait. It seemed like eternity. I started to think they had snuck past.
I start checking my six...not seeing anything....where did they go....
Then it happened....I cranked down to get the circle hook set.. he didn't know he was hooked yet....I cranked down some more....then he knew....talk about shear power!!
He came up and shook his head....then it happened....slack....I guess I didn't get a good hook set.
Saw about 20 tarpon today. Didnt get any other takers...but I still consider it a good day. Can't wait to do it all again next weekend!!!

Just curious, did you use a sabiki to get the threads.

Yeah, the threads were and are thick. Doesnt take long to get plenty of bait.
