Sarasota Bay 9-18-11

Post by DoubleM »

After losing some quality fish during last weeks tx, I realized I needed some practice. Spent most of the work week doing as many chores as possible to please the warden for some available time on Sunday. East wind ruined my plans of hitting the usual grounds so I fished the east side. Launched at dark thirty and caught a snook on an underwater light shortly there after. Hit the flats and found it over run with stinkpots. Crossed the flat to the area they wouldn't dare and fished the mullet schools. Caught some more snooks who must be in the local circus cause they had all those acrobatic moves down. I then got a good hit with some drag peeling action, the fish stayed low so I thought I had my red to complete the slam. But no, it was another linesider, biggest of the day. Only red I saw all morning was one following a pin fish that ate my paddle tail. He spooked off when he saw my fearsome vessel.

On a side note, when I returned to the launch a local lady scolded me for the red grouper carcasses that someone ditched. She rolled her eyes when I assured her I wasn't involved. She laughed when I asked her to give me a hand loading the kayak, what a b.

Great job. Looks like fun.
Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.

Nice catch, even better is the way you are handling the fish before releasing.
