As some of you already know I have been off the water for a few weeks due to a situation with my eye.
Log story short, I had an artificial lens put in my right eye about 15 yrs ago and it came loose. I had surgery last week to repair it and all went well (for the most part) but I am still unable to see clearly without a corrective contact lens which I cannot wear for a couple more weeks to let the healing process take place. I still can't see the computer very well so as long as Rik doesn't change anything on the website this month, I can navigate by memory (click hear, click there... type what I think are the correct letters, etc). It's really a pain in the arse trying to blow up the font large enough to read because it moves the links and buttons around.
This weekend I was kidnapped by a friend and forced to show off my favorite fishing holes.
Being that he is 72 and from out of state I figure I don't have to worry about him hole jumping my spots. Not to mention he calls me when he comes down because I'm the one with the boat.
Since I can't see and the tide was so low, we opted for the canoe instead of the skiff and even then I still ran aground... many times. I did pretty good finding my potholes without being able to see them. When all was said and done, our 2 day excursion yielded many over slot trout (only caught 1 trout under 20") and reds in the mid 20s.
The highlight was probably Sunday. We fished 6 hours without catching a single fish. The high pressure system really shut the reds down on the shallow flats. I finally suggested forgetting about the redfish, I needed to catch "something". We made our way to a different area and we both started throwing topwater plugs. I got the first pop and it was a small redfish. I missed another pop. Out of nowhere a bomb went off on his plug and line started ripping from his reel. Suddenly another explosion sounded and my rod doubled over. We almost couldn't reel because we were laughing so hard about the double hookup on good fish. 22" and 24" trout! We knew we couldn't top that and called it a day. We laughed about it all the way back to the launch.
He will be here a couple of more weeks. After he recovers from this trip I am expecting to be kidnapped again.

Re: Kidnapped!
Mark, sorry to hear about your eye. I know it sucks. I had a laceration to my cornea last year that kept me off the water for six months. I'm just gettingbback into the swing ifthings but the not being able to see thing gets old fast! Get well soon.

Hope everything is back to normal soon. Great trout.
Being out on the water in the kayak is the prize. Catching fish is the bonus.

Seriously, trout smell different than ladyfish. Funniest part of Saturday: I was poling across a shallow flat where there is a pothole that I have been to many times and I missed it... poled right passed it about 15 feet to the north. Later in the day I had him sight cast to a redfish. I can't see a light green hole 30ft wide in the middle of a dark green flat but I can point out a 25" red 30ft out.
Ask Sharon, I can hear fish, too.

If you really think those are trout you need to see a new eye doctor.

Cook just because you have to hold a fish closer to you to see it does not mean you have to hold it closer to the camera to take its picture....... You Roland Martin wannabee.
